Kase River Riverside Park

Kase River Riverside Park runs along the banks of the Kase River in Saga City and serves as the launch and viewing ground each November for the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, one of Asia's largest hot air balloon events, when dozens of balloons lift off from the open riverbank grounds at dawn. Outside the festival, the park functions as an everyday green space for local residents, with paved paths for walking and cycling along the water, open lawns, and a row of cherry trees that bloom in late March and early April, drawing picnickers and joggers to the riverbank. The wide, flat riverside setting, chosen specifically for its openness to accommodate balloon launches, also makes it a comfortable, easy walk for visitors of all fitness levels, with the Saga Balloon Museum situated nearby along the same stretch of river for those wanting to learn about the festival's history. A leisurely walk or bike ride along the park takes one to two hours depending on distance covered, while a shorter stroll near the museum can be done in 20 to 30 minutes. Cherry blossom season draws the largest crowds outside of the November festival itself, when the riverbank becomes one of Saga City's main gathering points at dawn for balloon launches and spectators line the paths for a clear view.
