Cape Manzamo takes its name from a Ryukyuan legend in which a king declared the flat clifftop large enough for ten thousand people to sit (man = ten thousand, za = sit, mo = place). The headland's coral limestone has been eroded over millennia into dramatic overhangs, most famously the elephant-trunk arch visible from the main viewing platform. A paved coastal path loops along the cliff edge past additional rock formations and small sea caves, with the East China Sea crashing against the rock below throughout. The cape sits within Onna Village, one of Okinawa's main resort areas, making it an easy stop between beach resorts along Route 58.
