Fumi no Yado (Traditional Ryokan)

Fumi no Yado is a traditional ryokan in the Urakami district of Nagasaki, roughly a five-minute walk from Urakami Station on the JR Nagasaki Line. The location places guests within easy reach of the Urakami Cathedral, the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park, and the Peace Park, all accessible on foot in under 15 minutes. The busy downtown waterfront near Dejima Wharf is about 20 minutes away by tram from the Urakami Station stop.

The property is built in the manner of a classic Japanese inn, with tatami-floored rooms, low wooden furnishings, and shoji sliding screens that frame views of a small inner courtyard garden. The aesthetic favors understated craftsmanship over modern convenience—aged timber beams, handmade ceramic tableware, and seasonal ikebana flower arrangements appear throughout the common areas. The scale is intimate, with a small number of rooms that allows for attentive, personalised service.

Room types span Standard Japanese Rooms with garden-facing sliding doors, Deluxe Japanese Rooms with wider floor plans and separate sitting alcoves, and a Suite that looks directly onto the courtyard. All rooms are prepared each evening with futon bedding laid out by staff, and guests receive yukata cotton robes for use during the stay.

Dining is central to the ryokan experience here. Kaiseki multi-course dinners are served in-room or in a communal dining area and draw on seasonal Nagasaki produce. Breakfast follows a traditional Japanese format featuring rice, miso soup, grilled fish, pickled vegetables, and soft-boiled egg. Both meals are included in the per-person nightly rate.

The communal onsen bath uses naturally sourced spring water and operates on a gender-separated schedule throughout the day, with private bathing slots available on request at check-in. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Staff communication is primarily in Japanese, though basic English assistance can be arranged in advance by contacting the property before arrival.
