Takachiho Ryokan Iwamoto stands in the mountain village of Takachiho, in Miyazaki Prefecture's Nishiusuki District, within walking distance of Takachiho Gorge and the Takachiho Shrine — two of the most significant spiritual and natural landmarks in southern Kyushu. The ryokan sits in a landscape of forested gorges carved by the Gokase River, in a region that holds deep significance in Japanese mythology as the location of several stories from the Kojiki, Japan's oldest chronicle.

The property operates as a traditional Japanese inn with accommodation in tatami-floored rooms with futon bedding, yukata robes, and the attentive service conventions of the ryokan format. Room options include standard Tatami Rooms and Deluxe Tatami Rooms with river-valley views — the latter commanding premium rates reflecting their elevated position and outlook. Guests remove footwear at the entrance and move through the inn in slippers, maintaining the boundary between outdoor and indoor spaces central to Japanese domestic life.

An on-site onsen facility provides separate men's and women's bathing areas fed by natural hot spring water. Bathing is available in the morning and evening and included in the stay rate. The kaiseki dinner served in-room or in a dining room forms a main draw of the experience: a multi-course seasonal meal incorporating local Miyazaki beef, river fish, mountain vegetables, and sake selections.
