Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama

The Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama, operated by Nissin Foods, is an engaging interactive museum in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, dedicated to the invention and global cultural impact of instant noodles. The museum honours Momofuku Ando, a Taiwanese-Japanese inventor who created Chicken Ramen in 1958 and Cup Noodle in 1971 — two products that changed global food habits at a scale few inventions have matched. The Yokohama location, opened in 2011, is larger and more comprehensive than the original facility in Ikeda, Osaka.

The museum is structured around two major interactive experiences. In the My Cup Noodles Factory (¥400 per person), visitors design and decorate a custom Cup Noodle container before filling it with their chosen broth and toppings from a selection of 24 options — the resulting vacuum-sealed cup is a tangible souvenir. In the Chicken Ramen Factory (¥1,500, advance booking required), participants mix, press, steam, and fry raw wheat flour to produce their own chicken ramen noodle block from scratch, following the process Ando originally developed.

The permanent exhibition area traces the history of instant noodles decade by decade, from Ando's 1950s food-security philosophy through to the 2005 development of Space Ram — ramen reformulated for consumption in zero gravity aboard the International Space Station. The Noodles Bazaar food court on the ground floor offers instant noodle dishes from eight countries, each adapted with local ingredients. The Momofuku Theater screens a biographical film about Ando's life with English subtitles.

The My Cup Noodles Factory sessions are timed and sell out, particularly on weekends. Booking the first session slot (10:00 opening) guarantees availability and the shortest internal queues. The museum is a 5-minute walk from Minato Mirai Station on the Minatomirai Line.
