Located below street level on the Haruyoshi bar street, the bar is reached by a narrow staircase that opens into a low-lit room dressed with vintage record sleeves, bookshelves, and the warm amber tones typical of serious jazz listening bars in Japan. The atmosphere is intentionally unhurried — conversation is kept at a respectful volume during live sets, and the general ethos is one of appreciation rather than socialising.

The crowd spans a wide age range, from older regulars who have frequented the bar for years to younger listeners discovering the genre. The dress code is not formally enforced but the clientele's self-selecting nature produces a well-dressed and attentive room. Maruzen operates Monday through Saturday from 20:00 to 02:00, with live jazz performed on Friday and Saturday nights by local musicians. The drinks programme is built around a whisky collection of over 80 bottles, covering Japanese single malts, blended Scotch, Irish, and American expressions. Cocktails and beers are available, but whisky is the clear draw and the bar's staff are knowledgeable about the selection. Drink pricing runs from ¥700 to ¥1,500. Bar snacks are available but the kitchen is limited — Maruzen is primarily a drinking and listening venue rather than a dining destination.
