Moossou Beach

Moossou Beach sits about 3 km west of central Grand-Bassam, in the small Abouré fishing village of Moossou in the Sud-Comoé Region. The sand is soft and pale gold, backed by dense coconut palm groves that shade much of the shoreline, and the water is noticeably quieter and less crowded than the main Grand-Bassam beachfront, though it carries the same open Atlantic exposure and occasional strong swell. There are no hotel beach clubs here; instead the beach is fringed by a handful of small maquis run by local fishing families, serving grilled fish caught that morning alongside attiéké and cold drinks. The atmosphere is unhurried and local rather than touristic, drawing visitors who want the coastal scenery of Grand-Bassam without its crowds, vendors and hotel infrastructure. Facilities are minimal: there are no sun lounger rentals, no lifeguard presence and no formal restrooms beyond what individual maquis offer their customers, so visitors typically bring their own shade, towels and drinking water. The village itself, with its fishing pirogues pulled up on the sand and nets drying between the palms, is as much a part of the visit as the beach. Moossou is reached by taking a taxi or gbaka to Grand-Bassam and then a short local woro-woro onward to the village, roughly 42 km from Plateau in total; there is no direct public transport link from Abidjan and no formal parking area, so vehicles typically park along the village access road.
