A coastal regional park of pine forest, marsh and dunes just west of Pisa, formerly a Medici and royal estate.
San Rossore is part of the Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Regional Park, a protected area of umbrella pine forest, dunes and wetlands between Pisa and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was a hunting reserve of the Medici and later a royal estate, and later a presidential estate of the Italian Republic. Wild boar, deer and many bird species live in the park, and paths for walking and cycling cross the forest to the coast. It provides a green alternative to the city centre and is connected to the history of the saint San Rossore, whose name the estate carries.
