A magnificent Benedictine abbey dating from 1313, set in a remote landscape of eroded clay hills (crete senesi) south of Siena. The Great Cloister contains a celebrated fresco cycle on the Life of St Benedict by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma - 36 remarkable panels painted between 1497 and 1508.
