The route is about 5 km round trip from the entrance to the cape area and takes 2 to 3 hours. It is gentle, with a total rise of up to about 100 to 150 m, so it counts as easy, although the surface is rocky and uneven in places. Monte Gallo, the dominant peak of the headland, reaches 527 m but is not part of the standard walk. The path crosses open Mediterranean scrub with almost no shade, so sun and wind exposure are high. Highlights along the way include views back to Mondello bay, sea caves and rocky inlets, the lighthouse area near the tip of the cape, and a cove where visitors swim in clear water within the marine reserve. Wildlife includes seabirds and coastal plants adapted to salt wind. There are no huts or cafes inside the reserve, and drinking water is not available on the trail, so supplies must be carried in from Sferracavallo, where bars and restaurants line the harbour. A natural turn-around point is the lighthouse area, after which the same path returns to the entrance. In summer the walk is best done in the early morning, and strong north-westerly winds can make the cape unpleasant in winter storms.
