Catania travel guide: where to stay, what to do, and where to eat in Catania, Sicily, Italy.

Catania nightlife is young, loud and walkable, driven by the university and concentrated in the historic centre: the pubs around Piazza Teatro Massimo and Via Montesano, the Pescheria and Piazza dell'Indirizzo lanes, and the newer lounges of San Berillo. Summer moves part of the scene to the Lungomare and the beaches south of the port.

Aperitivo starts around 6PM–7PM, dinner is rarely before 8:30PM, and the pub lanes are busiest from 10PM to 2AM. Clubs and live venues open after 11PM and run to 3AM–4AM, mostly Thursday to Saturday. Many venues are seasonal or change hours between the university term and summer.

Nightlife tips

Stay safe and have fun.

Tip

Aperitivo runs roughly 6PM–9PM; a drink of about €6–€10 (~$6.9–$11.5) sometimes comes with snacks, but this varies by bar

Tip

Bars fill after 10PM and clubs after midnight; dinner before 8PM is rare

Tip

Walking between the Piazza Teatro Massimo pubs, Via Montesano and the Pescheria takes under 15 minutes, so a bar crawl needs no transport

Tip

Many venues have seasonal hours; confirm opening on the venue's social page before a special trip

Tip

Taxis or ride-hailing are best for late returns to hotels outside the centre; the metro stops running in the evening

Tip

Check the programme before going to Zō, Mercati Generali and the theatres, as events vary by night

Tip

Teatro Massimo Bellini is closed until 31 December 2026; opera and concert performances are held at Teatro Metropolitan and Teatro Sangiorgi, so confirm the venue on the ticket
