Roma Est Shopping Centre

Roma Est is one of the largest shopping centres in Rome and the wider Lazio region, anchoring the eastern edge of the city near Lunghezza off the A24 motorway and the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road. A vast, fully enclosed modern mall, it offers a very different experience from the city's open-air markets: climate-controlled, family-oriented and built around predictable Italian and international high-street brands rather than independent character. The centre houses around 220 shops across two levels, with a large Iper hypermarket as its grocery anchor and a broad brand mix spanning fashion chains such as Zara, H&M, Mango, Bershka and Pull&Bear, plus electronics, homeware, sportswear, cosmetics and accessory stores familiar to any European mall-goer. Prices are fixed retail, bargaining has no place here, and all stores accept cards as well as cash in euros; non-EU visitors making larger purchases can ask participating stores about tax-free shopping and VAT refunds on departure. The atmosphere is bright, spacious and busiest at weekends, when it functions as much as a social destination as a shopping trip. Eating options are extensive, with a large food court offering Italian and international fast food, cafes and casual restaurants, complemented by a multiplex cinema, making it an all-day, all-weather destination particularly popular with families. The single-level food court and cinema sit alongside the retail concourses, with free parking for several thousand cars wrapping the building, reflecting its car-oriented, out-of-town location. For visitors based in central Rome it is some distance from the historic sights and best reached by car, though it is connected to the centre by suburban transport links. It suits those after mainstream brands, a rainy-day option, or everyday essentials rather than the artisanal or designer shopping found in the centre of Rome.
