Sorrento travel guide: where to stay, what to do, and where to eat in Sorrento, Campania, Italy.
Accommodation overview
Sorrento offers accommodation for most budgets, from five-star cliff-top grand hotels such as Excelsior Vittoria, Bellevue Syrene and La Favorita to many three- and four-star hotels along Corso Italia, quiet family-run hotels on Via del Capo and villa-style hotels in neighbouring Sant'Agnello. Sea-view rooms and hotels with a lift to a bathing platform carry a premium, the historic centre around Piazza Tasso suits walking and dining, and hotels near the Circumvesuviana station suit day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento charges a per-person nightly tourist tax.

Check rates on Booking.comBooking tips
Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.
Book 2-4 months ahead for May-September, Easter and the September-October shoulder season; cliff-top sea-view rooms at Bellevue Syrene, Excelsior Vittoria and Tramontano sell out first.
Sorrento is the terminus of the Circumvesuviana line from Naples (about 60-70 minutes), so a hotel within a 10-minute walk of Corso Italia and the station removes the need for taxis with luggage.
Sorrento has no sandy beach in town; many cliff-top hotels have a lift or stepped path down to a private bathing platform at Marina Piccola or Marina Grande, so check whether the platform fee is included.
Hotels on Via del Capo and in Sant'Agnello are quieter and often cheaper, but sit 10-25 minutes on foot from Piazza Tasso; several offer a free shuttle, so confirm hours before booking.
Rooms facing Corso Italia or Piazza Tasso can be noisy until late on summer evenings; a courtyard or sea-facing room is quieter.
Ferries to Capri, Naples, Positano and Amalfi leave from Marina Piccola, a steep 10-15 minute walk or short taxi ride below the centre; hotels near Via Marina Piccola and Piazza della Vittoria shorten that trip.
Winter closures are common: some hotels (for example Hotel del Mare) close from about 30 October to 31 March, so opening dates need confirming for a November-March stay.
Compare the hotel's own site with Booking.com or Expedia; many properties publish a direct-booking rate or add free breakfast and parking for direct bookings.
