Dudhwa National Park is a Terai tiger reserve in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, India, near the Nepal border, about 215 km from Lucknow and 4.5-5 hours away. Its sal forests and grasslands shelter tigers, swamp deer (barasingha), Indian rhinoceros, elephants and many birds. The distance makes it difficult as a single day trip, and most visitors stay overnight at Dudhwa or in Palia.

Travel is by car with a driver via Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri for about ₹5,000-8,000, by train from Lucknow to Palia via Mailani for ₹150-500, or by UPSRTC bus to Lakhimpur or Palia followed by a local taxi. Safaris use jeeps with a forest-department guide, and entry permits and vehicle fees are paid at the park gate or booked through the forest department. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the swamp deer and many bird species are commonly seen. A day-return trip would involve a pre-dawn departure from Lucknow, a morning safari, lunch at a forest rest house or dhaba, and a late return, which is tiring. A better arc is to arrive the afternoon before, join a dawn safari, and leave after lunch. The park is open roughly from November to mid-June and closes in the monsoon. Winter mornings are cold and misty, so warm layers are needed. From March to June the heat is high but animals gather near water, which improves sightings. Visitors should book forest rest house rooms and safaris well ahead in the peak season from February to April. Neutral-coloured clothing and quiet behaviour in the vehicle improve wildlife viewing.
