Dashashwamedh Ghat is the best-known and busiest of the riverfront ghats in Varanasi, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is not a sandy beach in the seaside sense. It is a broad flight of stone steps descending to the western bank of the Ganga, and the 'shore' is a wide stepped platform where the river rises and falls with the seasons.

The busiest Ganga ghat, known for the nightly Ganga Aarti; boat rides leave from here. Swimming is not advised because of currents and water quality.

The water is the muddy brown-green typical of the Ganga on the plains, and clarity is low, especially after the monsoon. Swimming is not advised because of strong currents and water quality, though pilgrims perform ritual dips at the water's edge. The ghat is open and exposed to the river but sheltered from surf, and there are no waves. It sits in the old city close to Godaulia, so the stretch is lively, crowded and noisy rather than quiet. The dominant atmosphere is devotional and theatrical. Priests, flower sellers, boatmen, photographers and pilgrims share the steps from early morning, and the nightly Ganga Aarti draws large crowds at dusk, with fire lamps, bells, chanting and incense. Boat rides leave from the ghat for sunrise trips along the riverfront and typically cost about ₹200-600 depending on the boat, the length of the trip and bargaining. Amenities are informal: there are no sun loungers or lifeguards, but tea stalls, snack vendors and small shops line the lanes behind the ghat, and public restrooms are limited, so many visitors use those in nearby cafes and hotels. Access is on foot through the narrow lanes of the old city. Vehicles stop at the Godaulia crossing, from which the ghat is a short walk, and e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws serve the approach. Parking near the ghat is scarce. The steps are uneven and can be slippery near the water. Visitors should keep valuables secure in the crowds and agree boat prices before boarding. Entry is free. The cooler months from October to March are the most comfortable, while summer heat is intense and the monsoon can submerge the lower steps entirely.
