Maharashtra Weather & Climate Guide 2025

Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is India's second-most populous state and a powerhouse of culture, history, and natural beauty. Home to the bustling metropolis of Mumbai, ancient UNESCO World Heritage cave complexes at Ajanta and Ellora, majestic Sahyadri mountain forts, and pristine Konkan coastline beaches, Maharashtra offers an extraordinary diversity of experiences for every type of traveler.

Best Time to Visit

Months to Avoid

June to August (heavy monsoon rains)

The southwest monsoon brings heavy to very heavy rainfall across coastal Maharashtra, making many trekking trails dangerous and beach activities impossible. Eastern Maharashtra sees lighter rains but still faces transport disruptions.

Climate Overview

Maharashtra has three distinct seasons: a hot, dry summer (March-May), a heavy monsoon (June-September), and a pleasant, cool winter (October-February). The Western Ghats coastal belt (Konkan) receives very heavy rainfall during monsoon (3,000-6,000mm), while the Deccan Plateau in eastern Maharashtra is much drier (500-700mm annually). Mumbai is tropical with high humidity year-round.

Tips: Great time to visit hill stations before summer heat sets in. Strawberry season in Mahabaleshwar peaks in February-March.

☀️ Summer

Tips: Choose hill stations over city sightseeing. Visit early morning at archaeological sites to avoid heat. Pre-monsoon showers begin in May in coastal areas.

🍂 Fall

September-November

Post-monsoon months bring lush green landscapes, swollen waterfalls, and the spectacular Kaas Plateau wildflower bloom (September-October). Temperatures begin to cool and the air is crisp and clear.

Tips: Ideal for Kaas Plateau (book entry in advance), trekking in freshly green Sahyadri, and wildlife safaris as parks reopen after monsoon closures.
