Maharashtra Weather & Climate Guide 2025
Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Maharashtra.
Maharashtra is India's second-most populous state and a powerhouse of culture, history, and natural beauty. Home to the bustling metropolis of Mumbai, ancient UNESCO World Heritage cave complexes at Ajanta and Ellora, majestic Sahyadri mountain forts, and pristine Konkan coastline beaches, Maharashtra offers an extraordinary diversity of experiences for every type of traveler.
Best Time to Visit
Best Months
October to March
These months offer pleasant temperatures (15-28°C), clear skies, and ideal conditions for sightseeing, trekking, beach visits, and exploring the cave complexes at Ajanta and Ellora.
Months to Avoid
June to August (heavy monsoon rains)
The southwest monsoon brings heavy to very heavy rainfall across coastal Maharashtra, making many trekking trails dangerous and beach activities impossible. Eastern Maharashtra sees lighter rains but still faces transport disruptions.
Climate Overview
Maharashtra has three distinct seasons: a hot, dry summer (March-May), a heavy monsoon (June-September), and a pleasant, cool winter (October-February). The Western Ghats coastal belt (Konkan) receives very heavy rainfall during monsoon (3,000-6,000mm), while the Deccan Plateau in eastern Maharashtra is much drier (500-700mm annually). Mumbai is tropical with high humidity year-round.
