Karnataka is a large state in southwest India, stretching from the Arabian Sea coast across the forested Western Ghats to the Deccan plateau. It combines the UNESCO-listed ruins of Hampi, the Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebidu, the royal city of Mysuru, coffee-covered Coorg hills, and the beaches of Gokarna and Udupi, with Bengaluru as India's technology capital.
Bengaluru is Karnataka's nightlife capital, with dozens of microbreweries, rooftop lounges, and live-music venues in Indiranagar, Koramangala, MG Road, and Whitefield. Elsewhere, nightlife is quiet: Mysuru has a handful of pubs, Mangaluru has hotel bars, and Gokarna's beach shacks run seasonally. The legal drinking age is 21, and dry days (election days and certain festivals) close liquor sales. Most Bengaluru venues close by about 1AM.
