Twin waterfalls on the Cauvery, Gaganachukki and Bharachukki, that plunge about 75 metres, fed by the river during monsoon.
Shivanasamudra is an island town on the Cauvery, where the river splits into Gaganachukki and Bharachukki. The falls are at their fullest between August and October. The Shivanasamudra hydroelectric station, Asia's first, dates to 1902. Viewing platforms overlook the falls, while coracle rides are offered at Bharachukki when water levels allow. Swimming is unsafe near the falls. The site is remote and public transport is limited.
