Gopi Talav is a historic artificial lake in the Gopipura neighbourhood of Surat, Gujarat, built around 1510 by Malik Gopi, a wealthy merchant and administrator who served under the Gujarat Sultanate. Malik Gopi is also the figure after whom the surrounding Gopipura quarter is named, and he was a prominent builder in the city during its early growth as a port. The tank was created as a water reservoir and civic amenity, a common type of public work for wealthy patrons in medieval Gujarat, and for centuries it served the surrounding settlement's water needs and as a gathering place.

The lake is rectangular in form with stepped stone edges typical of Gujarati tank design, and it sits within the dense old-city fabric of Gopipura, close to the older commercial lanes. Over time the water body suffered from neglect and encroachment, as many urban lakes in Indian cities have. A major redevelopment carried out by the Surat Municipal Corporation between 2012 and 2015, at a reported cost of about Rs 22 crore, restored the tank and reshaped its surroundings. The works added an amphitheatre, a fountain plaza, landscaped walkways and lighting, converting the old reservoir into a public recreational space.

The current state is therefore part historic monument and part modern civic park. The original fifteenth-century and sixteenth-century character is visible mainly in the tank's footprint and its stepped edges, while the amphitheatre and fountain features are contemporary additions. Visitors typically come for evening walks and for events held in the amphitheatre, and the site is used by local residents as well as heritage-minded travellers. Entry fees are not published, so it is best to confirm conditions on site. The lake offers a useful counterpoint to Surat's fortified and colonial monuments by showing the city's pre-Mughal civic landscape.
