Janpath Market runs south from Connaught Place along Janpath road in central Delhi and is one of the capital's most popular pavement markets for budget jewellery, bags and clothing. Stalls specialise in Tibetan-style silver and junk jewellery, mirror-work and embroidered bags, cotton kurtas and dresses, and general tourist souvenirs, with goods pitched squarely at value shoppers rather than collectors of fine craftsmanship; genuine silver is sold alongside plated or alloy pieces, so buyers unfamiliar with metals should inspect purchases carefully or ask for a hallmark. Vendors expect to negotiate, and opening prices quoted to foreign-looking visitors are often two to three times the eventual settling price, making bargaining essential rather than optional. Cash is the standard payment method for nearly all stalls; cards are rarely accepted on the open pavement. No tax-refund applies to informal-market purchases. The market is busy and informal, with stalls packed close together along the pavement and touts occasionally steering shoppers toward particular stores; there is little seating and few food options directly on Janpath itself, though Connaught Place's inner and outer circles nearby have extensive cafes and restaurants. The Tibetan Market lane, a narrow covered arcade of small stalls just off the main pavement, is the strongest single section for silver jewellery and curios.
