Monolithos Castle is a ruined Knights Hospitaller fortress built in the early 15th century on a sheer rock pillar about 100 metres above the sea on the west coast of Rhodes, Greece, near the village of Monolithos. The castle was constructed to protect the island's western coast, and its remains, including walls, a cistern and a small chapel dedicated to Agios Panteleimon, sit on the summit of the monolith, which gives the village its name.

The principal photographic frame is the view from the car park at the base, where the castle rock rises abruptly against the sky, and from the summit, where the sea spreads to the west with the island of Chalki visible in clear weather. Because the coast faces west, sunset is the standout time: the sun sinks toward the horizon, silhouetting the rock and walls and lighting the sea and the cliffs below in warm colour. Wide-angle lenses suit the summit view and the cliff drop, while a short telephoto isolates the chapel against the sky. The best seasons are April to June and September to October, when haze is lower and the sunsets clearer, though winter sunsets can be dramatic when clouds break. In summer the sunset crowd gathers at the top, and the viewing area is small, so arriving 60 to 90 minutes early helps secure a tripod position near the chapel. A tripod is generally acceptable for visitors on this open hilltop, though gusty wind may require a sturdy model. A small admission fee applies in some seasons, and visitors should check current arrangements. Drones are subject to Greek registration rules and should avoid the cliffs and other visitors. The climb up the stone steps takes about 10 minutes, and there is no shade or water at the top. Descending after dusk requires a headlamp or phone torch, since the steps are uneven and unlit. Cafes and toilets are found in the village near the car park.
