Kalami Beach Taverna

Kalami Beach Taverna is a beachfront taverna on Kalami Bay, on the north-east coast of Corfu in the Ionian Islands of Greece, around 30 kilometres from Corfu Town. Kalami is a small, picturesque bay with a pebble beach and a short waterfront, and the area is well known in literary history as the former home of writer Lawrence Durrell, which draws many visitors. The taverna is known for lunch by the sea, with a menu of Greek seafood centred on fresh fish. The signature offering is the fresh fish of the day, usually grilled and served with lemon, olive oil and a side of salad or vegetables, alongside typical Greek starters such as tzatziki, fried zucchini and Greek salad. The restaurant does not carry Michelin recognition or a named-chef lineage; its appeal lies in its location, with tables positioned close to the water so that diners can step from the beach to the table. The dining room character is relaxed and informal. Sandals and swimwear covered by a light wrap are common at lunch, and the atmosphere is sunny and easygoing, with moderate noise from families and groups on the beach. Evenings are quieter, and many visitors prefer the long lunch. The beverage list typically covers Greek wine, beer, soft drinks, ouzo and iced coffee. Prices are mid-range for the north-east coast, around €18-35 per person, with the cost rising if whole fish is ordered. Walk-ins are usually possible, but arriving by 1PM in July and August helps secure a waterfront table, and booking by phone is sensible for larger groups. Kalami is reached by a narrow road down from the main coast road, and parking is limited, so some visitors arrive by boat or taxi. The bay is also a convenient base for swimming before or after lunch.
