Photo spot at Korission Lake, south-west Corfu.
Korission Lagoon is a shallow coastal lake on the south-west coast of Corfu, in the Ionian Islands of Greece, separated from the Ionian Sea by a long strip of sand dunes and reed beds. The area is a protected wetland, known for its birdlife, and the frame offered combines still water, reeds, sweeping dunes and an open sea on the far side of the dune ridge. The lagoon runs roughly north to south, with the dunes on its western edge, so early morning light comes from the east across the water and illuminates the reeds and birds, while evening light rakes across the dunes from the west. Calm mornings provide mirror-like reflections, whereas wind ruffles the surface and reduces reflection quality. April to June and September to October are the best months, as migratory birds pass through and temperatures are mild; midsummer heat and glare make midday photography difficult. The area is generally quiet, with a small number of visitors at the beach end, and crowding is rarely a problem. Tripods can be used on the dune paths and sandy shore, though visitors should stay on marked paths to protect the dune vegetation. As a protected area, restrictions apply to disturbing wildlife and to nesting zones, and drone use is not advisable because of birdlife and Greek aviation rules. There is no entrance fee. A telephoto lens of 300mm or more suits birdlife, while a wide-angle lens captures the dunes and reeds. A hide or quiet approach improves results with birds. Facilities are limited, so water should be carried, with tavernas near the beach providing restrooms.
