Photo spot at Pelekas, west Corfu.
Kaiser's Throne is a hilltop viewpoint above the village of Pelekas on the west coast of Corfu, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. The spot is named after Kaiser Wilhelm II, who is said to have enjoyed the view during visits to the island. The frame offered is a wide panorama over the west coast, taking in the beaches below, the rolling green interior and the open Ionian Sea, with the setting sun dropping into the horizon directly in front of the viewing platform. The platform faces west, so sunset is the signature time, with warm light across the hills and sea and the silhouette of the landscape deepening as the sun sets. Morning light comes from behind the viewer and is less dramatic, while midday light is flat. April to October is the main season; clear evenings in late spring and September give the best colour, and summer haze can soften the horizon. The viewpoint is a popular sunset stop, particularly in July and August, when the platform and surrounding road fill an hour or so before sunset. Arriving early secures space at the railing for a tripod, and the stairs to the top platform can become congested. The platform has stairs, and a small cafe nearby serves sunset visitors. There is no entrance fee to the viewpoint. Drone flights are subject to Greek aviation rules, and crowds make them impractical at sunset. A wide-angle lens captures the full panorama, a graduated ND filter balances sky and land, and a telephoto picks out the sun and horizon. The nearby cafe and Pelekas village provide restrooms and water.
