Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and Deutsches Eck Cable Car

Ehrenbreitstein Fortress occupies a rocky promontory directly above the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, rebuilt by Prussia in the early 19th century into one of Europe's largest surviving fortresses after the previous structure was destroyed by French forces. Visitors explore extensive ramparts, courtyards, and casemates that once housed a full military garrison, along with the Landesmuseum Koblenz inside the fortress walls, which covers regional history, industry, and the fortress's own military past. The defining experience for most visitors, though, is the cable car linking the fortress to the Deutsches Eck monument on the opposite riverbank, a crossing that offers a continuously changing aerial view over both rivers, the old town of Koblenz, and the fortress itself as the cabin climbs the hillside. From the fortress ramparts, the view stretches over the full confluence where the green Moselle meets the paler Rhine, one of the signature vistas of the region.
