Baumwipfelpfad Harz Treetop Walkway, Bad Harzburg

The Baumwipfelpfad Harz is a purpose-built elevated boardwalk on the Burgberg above Bad Harzburg, offering an easy, mostly barrier-free route through beech and spruce canopy rather than a traditional forest trail. Access is by the Burgbergbahn cable car, which departs from central Bad Harzburg a short walk from the town's train station and lifts visitors roughly 300 meters up the hillside to the walkway entrance; no driving or trailhead parking is needed for the walkway itself, though a car park serves the cable car base station. The walkway runs about 1,000 meters along a firm, level timber and steel structure with a gentle overall gradient, requiring no technical hiking experience or specialized footwear. The route passes through mixed beech and spruce canopy at heights of up to 25 meters above the forest floor, with interpretive stations along the way explaining the Harz forest ecosystem, before ending at a spiral tower with an observation platform giving panoramic views north over Bad Harzburg and the foothills toward the Lower Saxon lowlands. There are no water sources or shelters directly on the boardwalk, but the cable car base station and the walkway entrance both have kiosks and restrooms. The structure is fully engineered and maintained, so there is no exposure risk from loose rock or unstable terrain, though the elevated sections can feel exposed to wind on stormy days and are occasionally closed in high winds.
