Baumwipfelpfad Edersee Treetop Walk, Hemfurth

The Baumwipfelpfad Edersee treetop walkway is a 250m elevated walkway rising to 30m above the forest floor beside the Edersee dam at Hemfurth in northern Hesse, giving visitors a gently sloped route through the canopy of the surrounding Kellerwald beech forest. Unlike the region's climbing parks, the walkway requires no harness or safety equipment and no prior fitness or climbing ability, making it accessible to visitors of all ages, including pushchairs and, on the lower sections, wheelchair users, though the uppermost viewing tower involves stairs. The route is self-guided, with information panels along the way explaining the beech forest ecosystem of the Kellerwald-Edersee national park and views opening out over the reservoir as the path gains height. A wooden viewing tower at the high point gives a panorama over the Edersee dam and the surrounding hills. There is no age limit and no minimum fitness requirement, since the walkway is a level, paved path rather than a physical challenge, though the tower's stairs are the only obstacle for visitors with limited mobility. A kiosk and beer garden at the entrance offer refreshments before or after the walk. The attraction is open year-round, with extended hours from May to August taking advantage of longer daylight and warmer conditions; the beech forest is at its most colourful in autumn and its greenest in late spring, while winter visits can be affected by ice on the elevated sections in cold snaps. The walkway sits directly beside the Edersee dam, one of the largest dams in Germany, and can be combined with a walk along the dam wall or a visit to the nearby Kletterpark Edersee climbing park.
