Mercure Avignon Centre Palais des Papes

Mercure Avignon Centre Palais des Papes is a four-star chain hotel at 1 Rue Jean Vilar in the historic centre of Avignon, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. It stands a few steps from the Palais des Papes and the Place du Palais, with the Place de l'Horloge, the Rocher des Doms gardens and the shopping streets all within a short walk. The Avignon Centre railway station is roughly a fifteen-minute walk away, and the hotel's position inside the ramparts makes it a practical base for travellers who want to explore on foot. As part of an international chain, the property offers a consistent, business-friendly standard rather than a boutique character, with a modern interior set within the city's historic fabric. Rooms are available as Standard Rooms, Superior Rooms and Family Rooms, all air conditioned, which matters during hot Provençal summers, and wifi is provided throughout. Rates typically fall between about EUR 130 and EUR 260 per night, rising during the July Festival d'Avignon. A lift serves the floors. On the food side, the hotel has a restaurant and a bar, and a breakfast buffet is served each morning, which suits guests heading out early to visit the papal palace or to catch regional trains and buses for day trips to the Pont du Gard, Arles or the Luberon. There is no spa or pool listed among the amenities. Service is geared to both leisure and business guests, with a reception that can advise on museum opening times, tickets and local transport. Families can use the Family Room category, and the central position limits the need for a car, which is useful because parking in the walled city is restricted and often costly.
