The industrial dimension of Port-la-Nouvelle is visible from the southern end of the beach — the port handles substantial freight and is the subject of a major renewable energy terminal development featuring offshore wind and hydrogen infrastructure — but this does not intrude on the beach experience for most visitors. The lagoon areas north of the town sit within the Parc naturel régional de la Narbonnaise en Méditerranée, offering walking and birdwatching in a protected wetland environment. Facilities on the beach include seasonal lifeguards, showers, toilets, and parking. Local restaurants serve grilled fish at prices that reflect local rather than tourist demand. The town is easily reached from Narbonne by road via the D6009, approximately 30 km and 30 minutes by car. Port-la-Nouvelle functions as a practical, uncrowded, and genuinely unpretentious beach for visitors exploring the Aude coast who value authentic local character over resort infrastructure.
