Plage de Biscarrosse

Plage de Biscarrosse is a long, open Atlantic beach on the Landes coast in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, approximately 75 km south of Bordeaux. The beach stretches for several kilometres of uninterrupted fine white sand backed by the Landes pine forest and a low dune system that separates it from the coastal road. The Atlantic swell arrives directly from the west, producing consistent surf conditions that make Biscarrosse one of the preferred beaches for surfers based in Bordeaux. The beach is wide and gently sloping at low tide, contracting to a narrower strip at high water. Multiple distinct access points serve the beach — the northern access near Biscarrosse-Plage village is the most developed, with restaurants, surf shops, and the main lifeguard post. Towards the south the beach becomes progressively wilder and less developed. Surf schools operate throughout the summer season and board rental is available. The nearby Lac de Biscarrosse-Parentis, one of the largest freshwater lakes in France, provides an alternative swimming option for families preferring calmer water: the lakeside beach is sheltered, warm, and supervised in summer. This dual ocean-and-lake combination is one of Biscarrosse's key draws for French family holidays. Camping is the dominant accommodation mode in the area, with large, well-equipped campsites adjacent to the forest providing direct beach access. Parking is available at designated beach access lots signposted from the coastal road (Route des Plages). Cycle paths connect the various beach access points to the village centre. The beach attracts a predominantly French domestic crowd rather than international visitors, giving it a genuine local character that distinguishes it from the more tourist-oriented surf towns further north and south.
