Plage du Moulin de la Rive

Plage du Moulin de la Rive is a small, sheltered cove of around 300 metres set in the commune of Locquirec in northern Finistère, tucked behind a protective headland that makes it one of the calmest beaches on the otherwise exposed north Finistère coast. The sand is fine and golden, the water unusually still for this stretch of the Breton shoreline, and at low tide a series of natural rock pools forms along the flanking rocks, making it a particularly popular destination for families with young children. The surrounding scenery is green and intimate: wooded slopes come close to the beach edge, and the headland to the west supports a coastal walk that forms part of the GR34. The beach is equipped with lifeguards in July and August and has toilets and a car park nearby. There are no beach bars or commercial concessions directly on the sand, giving the cove a relatively natural feel compared with the more developed resort beaches further along the coast. The village of Locquirec, a few minutes' walk along the coastal path, has a small selection of crêperies and a modest harbour that retains the character of a traditional Breton fishing community. The nearest supermarket and larger range of restaurants are in Guimaëc or Morlaix, 22 km south. Access is by car only; no public bus serves Locquirec directly, and the road from Morlaix winds through countryside that adds to the feeling of arrival at somewhere genuinely off the beaten track.
