The Dendera Temple Complex, near Qena in Upper Egypt, is a well-preserved Ptolemaic and Roman-era temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor, and it lies roughly 150 to 200 km by road from Hurghada, usually visited as a long day trip via Qena. For photographers the two key frames are the hypostyle hall and the roof.

The hypostyle hall is lined with columns topped by the face of Hathor and a ceiling painted with astronomical scenes and rich remaining colour, best photographed with a wide-angle or fast prime lens because interior light is dim. The roof, reached by staircases inside the temple, holds small chapels, a view across the complex and the surrounding fields of the Nile valley, and carved reliefs including a famous zodiac ceiling scene in a chapel. Opening time is the best moment: the site is quiet before tour groups arrive, and low morning sun enters the hall at an angle, adding warmth and depth to the carvings. The best season is October to April, when the Upper Egyptian heat is bearable; summer afternoons are extremely hot. Crowds build from mid-morning as tour coaches from Luxor and Hurghada arrive, so photographers should go straight to the hall or roof and work backwards. A ticket is required, and photography rules and fees, including separate charges for cameras or tripods and for access to the roof or crypts, change over time and should be checked at the ticket office. Tripods and flash are often restricted inside the buildings, and drones are not permitted at antiquities sites without special authorisation. Restrooms and water are available near the entrance.
