Trafalgar Falls

2-3 hours Adult: $5 · Child: $2

Twin waterfalls known as 'Papa Falls' (125 feet/38 meters) and 'Mama Falls' (75 feet/23 meters), located on the west side of Morne Trois Pitons National Park. These are the most-visited waterfalls on the island, easily accessible for amateur hikers with stunning views and natural hot spring pools.

Trafalgar Falls is Dominica's most visited waterfall and one of the most accessible natural highlights on the island, located in the Roseau Valley on the western edge of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, roughly 10 kilometres east of the capital Roseau. The site features two distinct cascades side by side — the larger 'Papa Falls' (approximately 38 metres / 125 feet) and the shorter 'Mama Falls' (approximately 23 metres / 75 feet) — tumbling down separate rock faces draped in tropical vegetation. A purpose-built viewing platform near the trailhead provides an excellent vantage point over both falls simultaneously and is the most photographed position on site. From the platform, a short rocky trail of around 10 to 15 minutes leads closer to the base of Papa Falls, passing boulders and crossing a small stream. At the base, a natural hot spring pool fed by geothermal water creates a warm bathing area popular with visitors. The contrast between the cool cascade above and the warm pool below is a defining feature of the experience. Mama Falls has a separate cold freshwater pool at its base which requires a slightly more adventurous scramble across slick rocks. The trail from the car park to the viewing platform is well-maintained and takes about 5 minutes. A park entrance fee of USD 5 (adults) / USD 2 (children) applies. The site is operated as part of Morne Trois Pitons National Park and admission is collected at the entrance booth. Total visit time is typically 2 to 3 hours including the walk to the base of Papa Falls. Cruise ship passengers often visit between 9 AM and 2 PM, making mornings before 9 AM and late afternoons after 3 PM the quietest windows.

Is it possible to swim at Trafalgar Falls?

Yes. The hot spring pool at the base of Papa Falls is the primary swimming area. Water shoes are strongly recommended as the approach involves uneven, slippery rocks.

Is the site suitable for children?

The viewing platform is accessible to all ages. The rocky scramble to the base of Papa Falls requires care but is manageable for older children with adult supervision. Water shoes are essential.

Is photography allowed?

Photography is permitted throughout the site. The viewing platform provides the best wide shot of both falls. Morning light between 8 and 10 AM produces the most flattering conditions.

Accessibility

The paved path from the car park to the viewing platform is manageable for most visitors, though it has some uneven sections.
