Kathikas is a hill village in the Paphos district of Cyprus, set on the Akamas side of the island at roughly 600 metres above sea level, north of Paphos. It is known as a wine village, with vineyards on the surrounding slopes, and for its traditional stone houses, narrow lanes, shaded courtyards and small village squares.

The photographic frame is village scenery: weathered honey-coloured stone walls, wooden doors and shutters, bougainvillea and vines in the foreground, and open views across terraced vineyards and rolling hills towards the coast. On clear days the sea can be glimpsed in the distance from the upper lanes.

Late afternoon is the best time, when low western sun side-lights the stone and gives the lanes a warm glow, while long shadows add depth to the walls and doorways. Golden hour also lights the vineyards from the side, which brings out the texture of the vines. March to November is the most rewarding season: spring brings green hills and wildflowers, early autumn brings harvest colour in the vineyards, and the lanes remain pleasant to walk. Midday light is flat and hot, and winter can be cool and windy, though dramatic clouds over the hills can add interest to wider landscapes.

The village is small and quiet outside weekends and the harvest season, when visitors come to taste local wine and eat at village tavernas. Streets are narrow, so photographers should avoid blocking traffic or private gateways. There is no fee to walk through the village, and tripods are not restricted in the public lanes, though a compact model is easier in tight spaces. Residents live and work here, so permission should be requested before photographing people, and private courtyards should not be entered. Drones are regulated in Cyprus and are better avoided over a residential village. A 24-70mm lens covers most compositions, from streetscapes to detail shots, and a polariser deepens skies and cuts glare on the leaves. Cafes and tavernas in the village offer toilets and drinking water, and parking is available at the edge of the centre. Combining Kathikas with nearby Akamas viewpoints and wineries makes a full half-day photography circuit.
