The only surviving gate of the medieval walls of Gradec, with a shrine to the Virgin Mary.
The Stone Gate was built in the 13th century after the Golden Bull of 1242 granted Gradec free royal status. It was rebuilt several times, notably after the 1731 fire destroyed most of Gradec. A painting of the Virgin and Child was found undamaged in the ashes, and the gate was converted into a chapel. Today the passage is lined with candles and stone plaques of thanks.
