A 13th-century hilltop castle on Medvednica mountain with views of Zagreb, with a memorial altar to the Fatherland.
Built in the 1250s after the Tatar invasion, Medvedgrad overlooks the city from the Medvednica ridge. Restored in 1980s-1990s, it holds a restaurant and the 'Altar of the Homeland', a monument to Croatians who fell for the homeland. The walk from Šestine via the forest path takes about an hour. Views extend over Zagreb and the Sava plain.
