A 13th-century defensive tower in the Upper Town whose top gallery gives a panoramic view of Zagreb, and from which a cannon is fired every day at noon.
Lotrščak Tower (Kula Lotrščak) was built in the 13th century to guard the southern gate of Gradec. The cannon on top is fired daily at noon, a custom dating from 1877 that recalls a tale of keeping the church bells honest. A small gallery inside hosts exhibitions, and 100 steps lead to the viewing platform with sweeping views over the Lower Town and the cathedral spires. The tower sits at the top of the funicular and the Strossmayer Promenade, so it fits naturally into a walk through the Upper Town.
