Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar

Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar is the largest urban park in Bogotá, Colombia, covering around 400 hectares including its adjoining sports complexes. It lies in the Teusaquillo area of central-western Bogotá at Calle 63 with Carrera 68, and is built around an artificial lake with roughly 12 kilometres of paths, rowing boats, an amphitheatre and broad lawns. It serves as the city's main open-air lung and one of its principal event venues.

Visitors come to walk, jog, cycle, picnic and hire boats on the lake, and families use the playgrounds and open grass. Wide paths with tree cover wrap around the water, and the park has viewpoints that look toward the eastern mountains. The amphitheatre and outdoor stages host the city's largest free concerts, among them Rock al Parque, Salsa al Parque and Jazz al Parque, which draw very large crowds and change the character of the park for those days. The adjacent Salitre Mágico amusement park is a separate paid attraction.

A visit typically lasts one and a half to three hours, though a full day is easy to fill with cycling or events. The park is open daily from 6:00AM to 6:00PM, with free entry. Boat hire and the amusement park charge separately. Sunday mornings are the liveliest, when the Ciclovía connects directly to the park entrances and thousands of cyclists, runners and families take to the paths. Quieter times are weekday mornings, when joggers and dog walkers dominate.

The park neighbours the Jardín Botánico and the Biblioteca Virgilio Barco, so a combined outing can be organised on foot or by a short ride. Visitors should watch for weather changes, bring water and sun protection at altitude, and avoid the park after closing time. On festival days, expect security checks, restricted access and heavy crowding.
