Yuhuang Mountain Trail

The Yuhuang Mountain Trail climbs a low but rocky peak in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, reached by bus to Wushan Square or Zhongshan Road South followed by a walk to the trailhead near Bagua Tian; no entrance ticket is required for most of the route. The loop covers about 6 kilometres with 300 metres of cumulative elevation gain to the 239-metre summit and the ridge beyond, taking roughly 3 hours, and the trail's rockier, occasionally hands-on sections through weathered limestone outcrops keep it in the moderate category despite the modest peak height. The lower slopes near Bagua Tian are shaded by trees planted around the historic site, while the summit ridge is more exposed rock with panoramic views over the Qiantang River and central Hangzhou. Landmarks include the Bagua Tian ancient astronomical platform near the base, the summit's rock formations, and a ridge walk beyond the summit that many hikers use as an extended loop before descending; the summit itself is a natural turnaround for a shorter version. There are no water sources on the ridge, but small vendors operate near the Bagua Tian trailhead, and there are no refuge shelters since the route sits within the urban fringe of Hangzhou.
