Nanji Islands Coastal Trail

The Nanji Islands Coastal Trail crosses the main island of the Nanji Islands (Nanji Liedao) Marine Nature Reserve off Pingyang County, Wenzhou, an archipelago known for its clear water, sea cliffs and marine biodiversity. Access is by ferry from Aojiang pier in Pingyang County or from Longwan, Wenzhou, to the islands, a crossing of roughly an hour depending on the departure point and sea conditions. The loop covers about 6 kilometres across the main island with 200 metres of cumulative elevation gain over roughly 3 hours, on dirt and stone paths that climb over headlands between fishing village coves, keeping the technical difficulty moderate given the exposed, uneven coastal terrain. The path alternates between short shaded sections near villages and long fully exposed stretches along sea cliffs, where onshore wind is near-constant and there is no shade at all. Landmarks include the lighthouse at the island's highest headland, several fishing villages built into sheltered coves, and rock formations along the cliff line shaped by wave erosion; the lighthouse headland is the main high point and a natural turnaround for a shorter walk. Fishing village restaurants along the route offer food and water, but there are no water sources or shelters on the exposed cliff sections themselves.
