Yunqi Bamboo Path (Yunqi Zhujing)

The Yunqi Bamboo Path (Yunqi Zhujing) runs through a bamboo-forested valley in Yunqi Village, Xihu District, reached by Bus Y2 or 807 to the Yunqi Zhujing stop, about 35-45 minutes from West Lake; there is a small entrance area near the bus stop with limited parking for those arriving by car. The out-and-back route covers 3-4 km round trip with minimal elevation gain, making it one of the flattest walks in the Hangzhou hills, and typically takes 1.5-2.5 hours including stops. The path is paved with stone flagstones for most of its length, winding beneath dense, tall bamboo groves that provide near-continuous shade and noticeably cooler temperatures than the surrounding open areas. There is no exposure and no technical difficulty anywhere along the route. Landmarks include the bamboo grove itself, a small stream that runs alongside sections of the path, old tea-processing buildings associated with the site's history as a tea-growing area, and a modest visitor center near the entrance. Most visitors walk to the upper end of the maintained path before turning back, since the route does not connect through to further trails. There are no refuge huts, but benches are placed at intervals for rest, and the entrance area has restrooms and a small refreshment stand. Water sources beyond the entrance are not available, so hikers should carry their own. The dense bamboo canopy keeps the path notably cooler in summer than open trails elsewhere in Hangzhou, making it a popular choice for a shaded walk during the hot, humid months, though mosquitoes can be present given the moisture and vegetation.
