The Ancient Culture Street snack crawl is a self-guided route along the roughly 600-meter pedestrian street in Nankai District, Tianjin, near the Gulou (Drum Tower), and is not run by a formal tour company. Century-old snack vendors line the street, and the crawl is built around stopping at several of them at a visitor's own pace rather than following a fixed itinerary; a typical crawl takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Signature stops include the flagship shop selling erduoyan fried cake, a Tianjin specialty, at roughly ¥6-8 per piece, and the Guifaxiang 18th Street shop for fried dough twists (mahua), one of the street's best-known century-old snack brands. Between these anchor stops, the street offers a range of other savoury and sweet snacks from smaller vendors, giving the crawl a mixed balance rather than leaning heavily to one or the other. As a self-guided crawl, there is no bundled inclusion or exclusion list; each vendor is paid individually, with most snacks priced ¥5-15 per item and a full crawl typically totalling ¥40-80 per person. There is no group size limit or language requirement, since visitors order directly from vendors, and the street's flat, paved surface makes it straightforward for most walking paces. Evenings bring lantern-lit atmosphere along the street, differing noticeably from the daytime shopping crowd.
