Chengdu Classics Food Tour

The Chengdu Classics Food Tour is run by Chengdu Food Tours in partnership with UnTour Food Tours, an operator with food-tour programs in several Chinese cities. The four-hour outing begins at a meeting point in one of Chengdu's oldest neighborhoods and threads through narrow lanes, a local wet market, and a handful of family-run eateries. Across the route, participants sample roughly six to eight dishes and snacks, weighted toward savory Sichuan staples such as dan dan noodles, spicy wontons, and grilled skewers, with at least one sweet stop for a traditional Chengdu dessert. A tasting of local spirits, including baijiu, is built into the itinerary alongside the food stops. The wet market segment lets visitors see the fresh chilies, Sichuan peppercorns, and produce that define the region's cuisine, with the guide explaining how ingredients are selected and used in home cooking. The tour concludes with a sit-down, family-style meal at a local restaurant, giving the group a chance to rest and share a full spread of dishes together. Included in the price are all tastings, the spirits sampling, market entry, the closing restaurant meal, and an English-speaking local guide; not included are hotel pickup and drop-off, alcoholic drinks beyond the included tasting, and gratuities. Groups are kept small, generally under twelve people, and the pace is a relaxed walk with frequent stops rather than a rushed itinerary. The guide conducts the tour in English and is used to fielding questions about ingredients, spice levels, and local food customs. Vegetarian substitutions can often be arranged for some of the tastings if requested at the time of booking, though the tour's focus on meat- and offal-based Sichuan dishes means a fully vegetarian experience may require swapping out several stops.
