The North Peak cable car at Wamiaogou, about 7.5 km from the Huashan tourist center, is the fastest way onto the mountain, lifting riders roughly 4.2 km up the north face in about 8 minutes. From the upper station, North Peak itself is a short, gentle walk, but the more rewarding route continues along Blue Dragon Ridge (Canglong Ling), a narrow stone spine with sheer drops on both sides that serves as the traditional link between North Peak and the other four summits. Iron chains are bolted along the exposed sections for hand support, and stone steps are cut directly into the ridge rather than built up with concrete. The ridge walk ends at Jinsuo (Golden Lock) Pass, where generations of visitors have fastened padlocks to the chain railings as a tradition for safety and good fortune, and where the trail branches toward Central, East, South, and West Peaks. Weather on the exposed ridge changes quickly, and the route is closed after snow or ice. Most visitors combine the North Peak cable car ascent with a full- or half-day loop through two or three of the summits before descending by the West Peak cable car.
