Jiasan Guantang Baozi

Jiasan Guantang Baozi occupies a compact storefront on Beiyuanmen Street in the heart of the Muslim Quarter, where it has become one of the neighborhood's most recognizable stops for soup-filled steamed dumplings. The kitchen fills thin-skinned dumplings with a savory beef or lamb broth that liquefies during steaming, and the traditional way to eat them is with a straw poked through the wrapper to sip the hot soup before biting into the filling. This straw-sipping technique, alongside the sight of steam pouring from the stall's bamboo baskets, has made the shop a minor spectacle as well as a meal stop in the Muslim Quarter's dense street-food strip. The counter is halal, serving no pork or alcohol, and the offering is intentionally narrow: beef and lamb soup dumplings plus a spiced vinegar dipping sauce, rather than a broad menu. There is no seating to speak of beyond a few stand-up counters, and the atmosphere is defined by the crowd itself, with visitors eating standing up amid the surrounding market noise. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter, with dumplings served within a few minutes given the shop's high turnover.
