Huashan West Peak Cable Car (Taiping Cableway)

The West Peak Cable Car, also known as the Taiping Cableway, is a 4.2 km aerial ropeway that climbs from the Donggoukou base station up to Mount Hua's West Peak near Huayin in Shaanxi province, and is billed as one of the longest and highest-altitude cable lines in China. The ride itself requires no fitness or technical skill, no equipment beyond warm layers, and is suitable for almost all ages, though very young children should be accompanied closely inside the cabin. The line is run by the Huashan West Peak Taiping Cableway Company, a dedicated operator for this route distinct from the older North Peak line, and cabins are staffed by attendants who manage boarding and enforce capacity limits. A short verbal safety notice on cabin behaviour is given before boarding, and in the rare event of a mechanical stop, the operator's rescue teams are trained to lower stranded cabins or evacuate passengers along the support towers. The one-way journey takes roughly 20 to 25 minutes and gives sweeping views over Mount Hua's granite ridgelines, but temperatures drop sharply at altitude even in summer, so a jacket is worth carrying regardless of season. The cableway operates year-round and is the fastest way up to the West Peak, though it is suspended during high winds, thunderstorms, or heavy snow, and can close for scheduled maintenance without much notice, so checking conditions before setting out is advisable.
