Liaoning is a province in northeast China on the Bohai and Yellow Seas, bordering North Korea along the Yalu River. It combines Shenyang's Qing-dynasty imperial heritage, Dalian's beaches and European-style squares, Dandong's view across the border, and a long Great Wall coastline at Hushan and Xingcheng. Liaoning is also the heartland of Dongbei cuisine: dumplings, barbecue, stews, and fresh Yellow Sea seafood.

Dandong and the Yalu River Broken Bridge
Dandong sits directly across the Yalu River from Sinuiju in North Korea. Highlights include the Broken Bridge (the Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge bombed in the Korean War), the New Yalu River Bridge view and river-front seafood. A separate stop at the Tiger Mountain Great Wall, the eastern end of the Ming Great Wall, is covered as a distinct day trip.
Tiger Mountain Great Wall (Hushan)
Hushan (Tiger Mountain) is regarded as the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall, rebuilt in 1990s and running about 1,250 m up a hillside. The top gives a wide river view across to North Korea.
Fushun West Open-Pit Mine
A vast open-pit coal mine, about 6.6 km long and 2 km wide and over 300 m deep, which powered Manchukuo and early Communist industry. The observation platform and nearby Fushun Coal Museum explain the industrial history of Liaoning.
Yongling Mausoleum and Hetu Ala (Xinbin)
Yongling is the first imperial mausoleum of the Qing dynasty ancestors and part of the UNESCO 'Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties' listing. Nearby Hetu Ala is the first capital of Nurhaci's Later Jin state. A calm half-day for visitors interested in Manchu history.
Benxi Water Cave
One of China's largest known water caves: a karst cave with an underground river that visitors travel by boat. The scenic area also offers walking paths through stalactite chambers.
Liaoyang White Pagoda
A 70 m octagonal brick pagoda dating from the Liao and Jin dynasties, one of the tallest ancient pagodas in northeast China. Liaoyang was an important Liao capital site and is one of the province's oldest cities.
Anshan Qianshan National Park
Qianshan, known as 'Thousand Peaks', is a mountain range in Anshan with hundreds of granite peaks and old temples such as Wuliang Guan and Longquan Temple. It is a common half-day or full-day hiking trip from Shenyang.
Xingcheng Ancient City and Seaside
Xingcheng (Ningyuan) has one of the best-preserved Ming dynasty city walls in China, about 3 km around, and a seaside resort area with beaches and hot springs to the south.
Lushun Old Town and Prison Museum
Lushun (Port Arthur) is the site of the 1904-05 Russo-Japanese War, with a preserved Russian-Japanese prison, historic fortresses and Lushun Port. It is a half-day history trip for military-history visitors.
Changshan Islands (Changhai County)
An island county in the Yellow Sea, known for fishing villages, seafood and quiet coastal walking; the main town is on Dachangshan Island. Because of ferry times, a true day trip is short; an overnight stay is more realistic.
Jinshitan Golden Pebble Beach
A national tourism resort area with the Golden Pebble Beach, rock formations at Dragon Palace and Sun Asia Ocean World. It suits families and beach visitors and is easy to combine with a beach day.

Book G-trains on the 12306 app or Trip.com and carry the original passport: it is needed for tickets, museums and ferry boarding
Go early: many day trips are 2-3 hours each way, and last trains and ferries leave in the evening; confirm the return ticket before the outbound trip
Check the weather in winter (December-February): mountain and coastal sites can close because of snow and ice, and ferries are often cancelled
Use DiDi or Amap for last-mile transport; save the Chinese-character address before leaving the city
Carry Alipay or WeChat Pay plus CNY 200 (about USD 30) in cash for coach stations and small rural admission counters
Public holiday weeks (1-7 October, Chinese New Year) fill trains and scenic areas; book at least 10-15 days ahead
