Tianquan Lake, Xuyi

Tianquan Lake is a reservoir-style lake scenic area in Tianquanhu Town, Xuyi County, Huai'an, Jiangsu province, China. It is an inland lakeshore rather than a sea beach, so there is no ocean surf, and the shoreline mixes grassy banks, forest edges and lakeside paths rather than broad sand. The water is generally clear for a Jiangsu lake and calm, set among low hills and a distinctive bald cypress forest that stands in and beside the water. The lake is large and open with sheltered coves and inlets between wooded points, giving a scenic, uncrowded feel. The atmosphere is relaxed and leisure-oriented: families and couples stay in lakeside resort hotels, walk the paths, take boat trips and camp at the camping base. It is not a party destination, and organised swimming is not a typical feature. Amenities include lakeside resort hotels, a camping base, bald cypress forest and lake viewpoints, and boating and lakeside walking paths. Visitors should not expect sun loungers or seaside-style lifeguard hours. Xuyi County lies about 130-150 km southwest of Qingjiangpu by road, so the trip is best treated as a day outing or an overnight stay. A Didi or hired car takes about 2 hours, or a coach can be taken from the Central Bus Station to Xuyi followed by a Didi to the lake. Parking is available at the scenic area. The most comfortable months are April-June, when the surroundings are green and the weather mild, and September-October, when autumn colours appear on the cypress forest. Summer afternoons are hot and humid, and winter is cold with little activity. Many visitors combine the lake with other attractions in Xuyi County, which is also known for its crayfish cuisine.
