Tianzhu Mountain National Forest Park

Tianzhu Mountain National Forest Park lies about 130 kilometres northeast of Wuhan in Luotian County, Huanggang, and is reached in roughly two and a half hours by long-distance bus to Luotian followed by a local taxi, or by private car along the Wuhan-Luotian expressway. The park sits in the Dabie Mountains and includes Hubei's highest peak, with dense forest, granite ridgelines, and a network of hiking trails that climb from the forested lower slopes to exposed rocky summits with sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. Because of the distance and the length of the main hiking routes, this is best treated as a full-day trip: an early departure from Wuhan, ideally before 7am, allows arrival at the park entrance by mid-morning, leaving a full day for the ascent, summit views, and descent before the last bus back to Wuhan in the late afternoon or early evening. The main trail to the summit involves several hours of sustained climbing over uneven stone steps and forest paths, so visitors typically pack a simple lunch or buy noodles and grilled corn from the small stalls near the trailhead, since food options thin out higher up the mountain. May and June bring wildflowers and rhododendron blooms to the mid-elevation slopes, while September and October bring some of the best autumn foliage in the province as the maple and oak forests turn; both windows are considerably cooler and less humid than midsummer, which can make the exposed summit sections uncomfortable. Visitors without a full day to spare can shorten the trip by taking a cable car partway up on sections where one operates, though the final approach to the highest viewpoints still requires walking on foot.
