Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China on the southern coast, made up of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon peninsula, the New Territories and more than 200 outlying islands. It pairs one of the world's densest skylines with country parks, beaches and fishing villages, all linked by an efficient metro and ferry network.

Dining with kids
Eating out as a family.
Cha chaan teng (tea cafes) welcome families and serve set meals from about HK$40-60 (~$5-8) with macaroni soup, sausage and egg sandwiches and milk tea that suits children
Dim sum houses give high chairs and shared plates; go before 11AM to avoid queues and try steamed buns, congee, custard tarts and shrimp dumplings for picky eaters
Wonton noodles, congee and plain rice dishes are mild and cost HK$40-70 (~$5-9); ask for 'no chilli' (mai laat)
Many restaurants charge a 10% service charge and a small per-person tea fee (HK$8-20, ~$1-2.6), even for children
Malls such as Harbour City, Elements and APM have food courts with kid-friendly options, baby-care rooms and air-conditioning
Pack water and snacks: bottled drinks at attractions are HK$12-20 (~$1.5-2.6), while convenience-store prices are lower
Family travel tips
Practical advice for stress-free family trips.
Children under 3 are free on MTR and most buses; ages 3-11 pay child fares (about half); a child Octopus card gives the reduced fare
Stroller access: MTR stations have lifts and step-free routes; Central-Mid-Levels escalators and hilly streets are hard, so use a compact folding stroller or baby carrier
Bring sun protection and a portable fan: summer (June-September) is hot and humid, and typhoons close attractions with signal No. 8
Air-conditioned indoor options (museums, aquarium, malls) are essential in July and August
MTR stations have baby-care rooms, and malls such as Elements and Harbour City have nursing rooms
Disneyland and Ocean Park are cheapest bought on Klook or KKday in advance; visit on weekdays outside school holidays and Chinese New Year
Peak Tram queues can reach 60 minutes at weekends: go before 9AM or use bus 15 as an alternative
Hospitals with 24-hour paediatric emergency: Queen Mary Hospital (Pok Fu Lam) and Prince of Wales Hospital (Sha Tin); dial 999 for emergencies
